FOR YOU (2024)

FOR YOU is a solo dance performance conceived and performed by Julie Carrere. Inspired by the personalized 'For You Page' on TikTok, tailoring videos to individual users, the piece delves into the realm of viral memes, iconic dance moves, and the contrasting tones of somber and hopeful TikTok genres like corecore and hopecore.

Alternating between recognizable and abstract images, moments of entertainment and monotony, and unexpected twists and predictable developments, Julie Carrere navigates the landscape of pop-cultural references while striving to resist the commodification of her body.

Together with her collaborators, Carrere creates a dance piece that explores relatability through a blend of humor and sadness, delving into themes such as the 'main character syndrome' and the modern phenomenon of overwhelming stimulation
